Varsity Suspends Undergraduate For Smoking Indian Hemp


The Lagos State University (LASU) has suspended a second year Computer Science undergraduate, (name withheld), for being in possession of a substance suspected to be Cannabis Sativa popularly known as Indian hemp.

The suspension is contained in the university’s bulletin made available to newsmen, on Sunday, in Lagos. ‎ According to the bulletin, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, suspended the student in line with the powers conferred on him by Section 28 of the Law establishing the institution‎.

It added that the suspension will subsist until the student appears before the Students’ Disciplinary Committee of the institution to defend himself.‎

The bulletin stated that the institution’s security men apprehended him‎ on May 3, 2016, with the suspected substance. Adding that possession of such hard drugs contravened the rules and regulations governing the university.

It noted: “In view of this development, the student is not expected to participate in the academic activities of the university until the suspension is lifted.”
