Bukar Ibrahim, a lawmaker representing Yobe East Senatorial District, has admitted to being the man in a scandalous video that has gone viral online.
The former governor of Yobe State was captured on camera while dressing up, purportedly after engaging in a sex romp with two women.
The senator has now defended his appearance in the clip, calling it an attempt to blackmail him.
Ibrahim said whatever happened between himself and the women was nobody’s business, as it was a consensual act among all parties involved.
He, however, denied knowing how the clip was circulated, despite being aware he was being filmed by one of the women who had convinced him that the filming was part of the fun.
‘This is a personal, private matter. What does my having been with a girl have to do with the public? You know the normal thing: people ask for unreasonable things, and if you deny them, they try to blackmail you if they have a way,’ he told Premium Times Monday afternoon.
‘If they say I raped, that’s a different matter altogether. Is it because I am a public official then I am not supposed to be entitled to private life?
‘This is something that happened between two adults.’
The senator said he will investigate the cause for the leak.
‘I have commenced investigations to find out why it is circulating,’ he said. ‘But from all indications, it is a blackmail.’
Ibrahim had, in August 2000, been in the middle of controversy when he signed the controversial Sharia Law into law as governor of Yobe State.
