Snacks that have a high salt content will usually contain monosodium glutamate (or MSG). You can find information for this on the label of your snacks including bags of chips or canisters of peanuts.
Monosodium glutamate is a flavor enhancer that is commonly found in processed foods, and it may cause you to have a bad headache, body weakness and fatigue.
Diet Drinks
Almost all diet drinks contain the artificial sweetener, Aspartame. Diet coke contains an amino acid called phenylalanine and some scientific studies, like this one from the National Institutes of Health, found that this amino acid hinders the production of serotonin in the bodies of people that consume diet drinks.
Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that helps regulates our moods and keeps us happy. Instead of diet drinks, drinks such as iced tea or coffee that contains caffeine can help to improve your mood.
Packed Sweets
While a lot of us may know that Sugar is a big culprit of mood swings, you probably don’t know that packaged sweets are msde from artificial colours, which have been linked to reduced attention spans and hyperactivity—particularly in children.
If you want to take or give packed sweets, it’s best you reduce them to the barest minimum and stay off the ones at malls and stores.
Fast Food
Fries and certain foods from fast foods have high levels of trans fat which is unhealthy. The partially hydrogenated oils tend to increase the shelf life of most fast foods but also disturb your balance of omega-3s. Research from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center suggests that low levels of the fatty acid are associated with pessimism, depression and aggression.
Cereals And Snacks
While you don’t have to completely avoid taking cereals and snacks, it is important you make comparisons and check the labels of the different products to go with the one that contains 8 grams of sugar or less.

Canned Foods
Canned beans and soups also contain monosodium glutamate and excess sodium which can have a bad effect on your mood. If you’re feeling less than happy after eating a meal of canned food, you may want to check the label.
