JAY-Z addresses Kanye beef, Solange incident & Future lyrics in new Interview

JAY Z sat for a podcast with Rap Radar in what was his first interview since releasing his album “4:44“, and addressed people’s perceptions on certain lyrics in the album.

In his single “Kill Jay Z” off the album, the rapper had said:

I know people backstab you, I feel bad too/ But this ‘f— everybody’ attitude ain’t natural/ But you ain’t the same, this ain’t KumbaYe/ But you got hurt because you did cool by ‘Ye/ You gave him 20 million without blinkin’/ He gave you 20 minutes on stage, f— was he thinkin’?/ ‘F— wrong with everybody?’ is what you sayin’/ But if everybody’s crazy, you’re the one that’s insane.

Fans believed this was a diss to Kanye, who had called him out while on tour, saying they hadn’t spoken in a while.

Speaking on the Kanye West feud, he said “He knows that he crossed the line,” JAY-Z said, referring to the time Kanye West went on rants at concerts about him and his wife Beyoncé. West had also, at the time, lamented that him and JAY-Z’s kids never played together.

“But what really hurt me was, you can’t bring my kids and my wife into it. Kanye’s my little brother. He’s talked about me 100 times. He made a song called Big Brother. We’ve gotten past bigger issues. But you brought my family into it, now it’s a problem with me. That’s a real, real problem. And he knows it’s a problem,” JAY-Z said adding, Don’t talk about anyone’s kid onstage. It’s too much energy. You give room for anybody to comment. Our children are already in this place where they are affected by our celebrity. Don’t go doing something that allows people to pit us against each other and talk about my child or even his child. Don’t do that.”

He added:

I know him. He knows. I know he knows, because we’ve never let this much space go between one of our disagreements, and we’ve had many, because that’s who we are. That’s what I like about him. He’s an honest person, he’s open and he’ll say things and he’s wrong a lot of times and he’ll confront it.

But that’s not the point. The point is, I was getting to the point where I said, ‘You got hurt by that.’ That’s nothing. You can’t diss somebody saying you got hurt. That’s the softest diss of all time. ‘You got hurt ’cause you did cool by ‘Ye.’ I dissed myself, actually. What are you talking about, you sucka-ass ni**a? That’s the softest shit of all time.

He said their beef was not related to the TIDAL-based legal issues, saying West’s “decision has always been his decision” that he (JAY-Z) cannot hold anyone back from doing anything.

JAY Z also addressed the elevator incident with his sister-in-law Solange Knowles. He said:

“We’ve always had a great relationship. fought my brothers and argued with my brothers my whole life. It just so happens, who we are, these things go into a different space, but it ain’t nothing. We’ve had one disagreement ever. Before and after, we’ve been cool. She’s like my sister. I will protect her. That’s my sister. Not my sister-in-law. My sister.”

Asked about how that surveillance tape ultimately resulted in a trio of acclaimed albums, Beyoncé’s Lemonade, his 4:44 and Solange’s A Seat at the Table, he had this to say:

“I think we went into that elevator great artists. That don’t surprise me. I’ve always loved Solange’s music. I think she was slept on before this album. I thought the album before this one was amazing too. Incredible artist. Bey made an incredible album before, a hundred of ’em. She literally has 100 hits. It isn’t like she didn’t have hits before this last album. It sounds good. It’s a good thing to say.”

About his line referencing Future in the same “Kill Jay Z” song, where he raps: “I don’t even know what you woulda done, in the Future, other niggas playin’ football with your son,” JAY Z said:

I really don’t mean any malice. I’m not discrediting all step-pops in the world. It was a line to say, that could happen to me in my future. It just so happened that his name was Future, and then I just made a scheme out of it. I wasn’t trying to put Future down. We just made a song together, I don’t have any problems with him.
