Taylor Swift‘s new video “Look What You Made Me Do” which premiered at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards is well on its way to smashing streaming records. Less than a week after its release, the video has gathered over 92 million views on YouTube.
The video itself is a representation of Swift’s rebirth as she employs the use of imagery to signal a change in her personality. The video begins with a zombified Swift digging her own grave which literally reads “Here Lies Taylor Swift’s Reputation“. This signifies that the death of the old Swift.
Remember when she earned a dollar in the case against the Radio DJ who groped her in 2013. Well, the next scene sees Swift in a luxurious tub filled with diamonds (reported to be real ones valued at around $10 Million) and a single dollar symbolizing her triumph in that case.
The most symbolic scene which is towards the end sees the new Swift standing over a swarm of former Swifts. Swift 2.0 also received a call of someone requesting to speak with Taylor Swift. Her response:
She can’t come to the phone right now… Because she’s dead.
