If you watched any televison during this past week, you would have seen one or two Fela documentaries. The man was that great that twenty years after his death, he still commands premium airtime.
But not all the documentaries are posthumous; some- like the 1982 Music Is The Weapon- were done at the peak of Fela’s life and career.
Similar, a number of Nigerian entertainers have worked hard enough to earn a documentary right now. In no particular order, here are five of them. Who are we missing?
1. Tiwa Savage
2. Wizkid
Wizkid’s army would be so here for it! A proper documentary that chronicles Starboy’s life from his days in Ojuelegba’ to his legendary night at The Royal Albert Hall would be instantly iconic.
3. Toke Makinwa
Unarguably the hardest working woman in show business. Toke is everywhere you look- radio, tv and online. As she may have noticed from her tell-all memoir, Nigerians cannot have enough of her. A visual representation of her journey would be even more stunning.
4. Mo Abudu
Mo Abudu’s life was made to be featured in an Oprah Winfrey hosted documentary to be honest. From her days in the corporate world to the success of her ambitious projects that saw her establish a tv network and now full length feature films, Ms Mo definitely has gems that the youth can lean from.
5. Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche
Perhaps only Wizkid is more famous than Chimamanda right now. But then, the writer has been read in places where Ojuelegba cannot be heard. Open with her thoughts and writing but yet so mysterious, a documentary about the life of CNA would help millions more across the world see the incredible individual that she is.
