How Sagamu Residents Celebrated Anthony Joshua’s 20th Career Win Against Carlos Takam

The whole world, especially Nigerians were geared up about the much anticipated boxing match between Nigerian-British heavyweight Anthony Joshua and Cameroonian-French boxer Carlos Takam. The amusing thing was that Nigerians, especially Sagamu were not excited to see who would emerge the winner because they already had a winner and, of course, it was their own Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua.
For those who do not know, British professional boxer and current unified heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua has his roots in Sagamu, a city located in Ogun state, Nigeria. This is why Nigeria’s newest Pay TV, Kwese went to great lengths to ensure that Sagamu residents and other Nigerians watched the live broadcast of the Joshua vs Takam fight, and here’s how they did it:
  1. 5 viewing centres were set up by Kwese TV in different areas of Lagos state to ensure no one had an excuse to miss the boxing match.
  2. Kwese TV also brought a viewing centre to Anthony Joshua’s hometown but to his environs. There was a quick stop at the old family house, before heading on to the family hall called Babajosh Memorial Hall built in honour of their great grandfather, to watch the boxing match between Joshua and Takam.
  1. Sagamu residents were more than happy to support and cheer on their son during the match. When the fight ended, the gathering went berserk in ecstasy!

It felt like the president was in town. Any tourist would have thought the match was actually taking place inside Babajosh Memorial Hall if they passed by. What a day it was!

Anthony Joshua has been able to guard and keep his titles just as he did in his match against Ukrainian former professional boxer, Wladimir Kilischko which took place in April 2017. This is his 20th win, with no losses. That’s the type of stuff future legends are made of.
