It’s time we take stock of the music we love, counting down the very best songs of the decade… so far.


So at Naijaloaded, we made a very detailed run down the decade to hand-pick the 10 songs worthy of accolades in the decade using our in-house criteria.


Selections and positioning are based on; the impact of the song, shelf-life of each track, digital stores streams, and the virality of the song.

10. Iyanya – Kukure



Kukere is a 2012 single by Iyanya which falls under his 2013 sophomore album titled Desire. No Doubt Kukere is a mega-hit.


The song popularises the “Etighi Dance” that originated in Calabar, which happens to be Iyanya’s hometown.


The song was produced by D’Tunes. A single that achieved global success, particularly in Nigeria, Ghana and the United Kingdom.


We believe it’s worthy of our No. 10 spot on this list.



9. Small Doctor – Penalty



If we’re talking about a song becoming an anthem, then we should be using Small Doctor‘s Penalty as our basis of judgement.


Penalty was released in 2016 and it spanned through 2018, making it unarguably the song with the longest shelf-life in the Nigeria Music Industry.

8. Olamide – Wo!



Sitting comfortably on our No. 8 spot is the YBNL Boss, Olamide with his mega song “Wo!“. Produced by Young Jonn.


The man with the Midas touch on any song he jumps on came through with this Street Banging tune in 2017 and it became an instant platinum song.


Many music critics have chosen “Wo!” to be Olamide biggest song and its definitely worthy of making it to our songs of the decade list.



7. Wande Coal – Bumper 2 Bumper



It is highly noted that Wande Coal is unarguably one of the greatest musicians to grace the Nigerian music scene.


Off his debut album titled “Mushin 2 Mohits” released far back as 2009, we experienced a mind-blowing track tagged “Bumper 2 Bumper


Many Nigerians have seen “Bumper 2 Bumper” as a Museum-worthy song, to that effect he took the 7th spot on our decade best songs.



6. D’Banj – Oliver Twist



Go back in time when D’banj and Don Jazzy produced the first viral content in the Nigerian entertainment scene.


Oliver Twist is said to first Nigerian content making it to the International market, thus paving ways to the act of today.


The virality of “Oliver Twist ” in Nigeria music scene was elaborate, that virtually every 19’s babies danced to it as during choreography while in primary/secondary school.

5. P-Square – Personally



The now-defunct duo which consists of the ‘African Favourite Twins’ (Mr P & Rudeboy) P-Square released one of their biggest songs of 2013 titled “Personally“.


Personally was released as the second single from their sixth studio album, Double Trouble (2014).


It garners huge attention and virality as the song was said to be a remembrance song for the pop legend, Micheal Jackson.



4. Burna Boy – Ye



I’m sure you are not so surprised seeing Burna Boy‘s “Ye” sitting pretty on the 4th spot of this list.


We all can sure fathom how big and impactive this song “Ye” was to the Burna Boy and even the Nigerian Music Industry as a whole.


A song that stands as a conduit of Burna Boy‘s Grammy-Award nomination.  The song International acceptance is huge and the streams? Impressive!



3. Korede Bello – Godwin



Yes! don’t be shocked! Korede Bello‘s GodWin is No.3 on our list of the biggest song of this decade.


GodWin” is a song by Nigerian songwriter and singer Korede Bello.


It was released on 28 January 2015, by Mavin Records. The song features backup vocals from Don Jazzy.


GodWin is full of cheeriness and drive; a cool number, indigenous, original, repeat-worthy and all.



2. Davido – Fall



Davido releases “Fall” in 2017 and it was included in his second studio album “A Good Time” released in 2019.


Fall” became the longest-charting Nigerian pop song in Billboard history and also the most viewed Nigeria song on Youtube.


There’s no need for a long write-up, you know “Fall” is the rightful owner of this position.



1. Wizkid – Ojuelegba



Ojuelegba” is a song by Nigerian top recording artist Wizkid from his self-titled second studio album, Ayo (2014).


The song gained organic International attention which birthed the vocals from Canadian rapper Drake and English grime artist Skepta on the remix.


Ojuelegba gained enormous local and International acceptance, making it one of the greatest that came out of the Nigerian Music Industry.
