Serious Tension In Agip As Protest Rocks Brass Island Over Power Outage (Photos)

The largest Agip oil facility in Nigeria, the Brass Terminal, which serves as the core of its operations in the country is located in Twon Brass.

According to a report by SaharaReporters, there is serious tension in Twon Brass Kingdom, Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State as women and youths barricaded the gate of Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) over a prolonged power outage on the Island.

The largest Agip oil facility in Nigeria, the Brass Terminal, which serves as the core of its operations in the country is located in Twon Brass.

Twon Brass Kingdom is made up of Ada-Ama, Cameroun Ama, Sambo-Ama, Shidi-Ama, Kemmer Town, Imbikiri as well as Brass Gate, which hosts NOAC.

For some months now, NAOC has been rationing electricity supply between Town Brass and Okpoama kingdoms, a situation that has not gone down well with the people.

According to reports, after several appeals to Agip to rectify the situation, the people had to exercise some patience, believing Agip would restore power in the affected areas.

However, power was not restored and worse still, there has been total blackout since May 7, pushing women and youths armed with placards to storm the Agip facility on Friday, disrupting the operations of the company.

Some of their placards had inscriptions such as ‘Enough is Enough with Brass Blackout,’ 'NAOC, Give Us Light,’ and ‘NAOC, Pay Community Workers’.

The protesting women and youths made it clear that the action of NAOC had paralysed business activities and subsequently affected their means of livelihood.

The protesters directed that no shop, beer parlour, market and other business venture should be opened, placing a fine on any business venture that defies the directive.

The immediate past vice chairman of Twon-Brass Council of Chiefs, Chief B.T. Williams said1 he was in support of the protest.

Williams, who incidentally is the Chairman of Light Committee in Twon, made it clear that the kingdom had written several letters to NAOC to rectify the power supply issues instead of rationing electricity.

He said it was unfortunate that the authorities of the oil company had failed to restore power supply to the kingdom which had been enjoying 24-hour power supply.

Charles Daniel, the lawmaker representing Brass Constituency 1 in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, said he had to embark on a solidarity visit to the people of Twon-Brass.

The protesters who continued their protest on Saturday vowed not to leave the Agip gate until their grievances were addressed.

Efforts to get the Security Manager of the company for comments were not successful as he did not answer calls to his mobile line.

However, an official of the company who spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorised to speak, said the oil company had asked the protesters to send a delegation of 20 youths to the company for the commencement of the installation of a new cable.

How Ebonyi Gov't Loyalists Crippled Me, Almost Buried Me Alive In Shallow Grave - Ex-Aide, Ogbonna Alleges

Amos, a former Development Centre coordinator in Ebonyi State, said he was relieved of his duty in the wake of the END SARS protest.

 Barr. Amos Ogbonnaya

Barr. Amos Ogbonnaya, a former Government official in Ebonyi State, has alleged that agents of the State Government abducted him and were about to bury him in a shallow grave until fate intervened, according to Daily Post.

Amos, a former Development Centre coordinator in Ebonyi State, said he was relieved of his duty in the wake of the END SARS protest.

From his hospital bed, he gave journalists details of a gruesome experience that would now confine him to sick-bed for months to come.

The ex-government official, who has his two legs shattered, battled tears as he narrated what transpired on the ill-fated day.

He claimed his problem started after he was sacked by the Governor for not mobilizing a rival group to counter the END SARS protest last year.

According to him, he thereafter joined G-65, a group of former aides who are battling to recover their unpaid entitlements.

The lawyer said his problems worsened after they made a petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and he followed it up with a recent appearance at an AIT programme, an action he said was termed “insult on the Governor.”

He alleged that he was abducted by persons well known to him and who were working for the Governor.

He said prior to the attack on him, a communique was issued after a meeting between the Governor and the people of Oha na Ivo, declaring that those of them criticizing the Governor would be turned to ancestors, while those that would survive would be called Ebonyi indigenes.

“On that fateful day, I had attended a meeting in my community, and when we finished, I was on my way when a Hilux van double crossed me, I came out wanted to run but they seized me. I know all of them. I shouted severally at least to attract the attention of residents. The people wanted to come and rescue me, but one of my abductors, the one from my community, was shooting repeatedly, so help could not come. They succeeded in pushing me into the Hilux van,” he narrated.

He said they immediately tore his trousers and blindfolded him with it, adding that “my close shave with death started from there.”

The politician said he was driven from one place to another until they landed in a bush and they removed the blindfold.

“At that point, I requested that I be allowed to say my last prayers. I asked them what my offence was, they said I was insulting the governor.

“They used a razor blade to scrape my hair. They said I should jump into the graze. I said I should be allowed to say my last prayer. They said ‘Ok, I should say my last prayer.’ I said Oh God, I want you to forgive me wherever I have done wrong, because I have never abused the Governor, all I am asking for is my legitimate entitlements. The governor cannot even call us to say to my people, don’t worry I will pay this and this, leave the other one. Is this the grave where I am going to be buried? How would my people know how I ended?

“Then I said God, these boys that are holding me hostage, I mentioned their names, he should forgive them for they don’t know what they are doing. If they know what they are doing, they will know that they are facing the same problem we are facing in Ebonyi State.

“One last thing God, protect my children, I don’t want them to suffer, move my cousins to send them to school, my father spent all to send me to school.”

He said, “at that point God intervened. One of them asked me do you have how many children? I said four boys, he said how many are you in the family? I said I am the only son. He now talked to one of them, he said they should not kill me, he is the only son, his children will suffer, they are still tender, that what they will do now is to injure me, they will finish my legs so that I will not be able to walk again. That was when they told me to lie down, that was when they finished these legs, they continued until they were satisfied the bones were crushed.”

He said from there he was again blindfolded and dumped at an unknown location from where he was rescued the following day.

Also, addressing journalists in Enugu on the development, the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Barr. Silas Joseph Onu urged the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to call Governor David Umahi of the State to order.

He equally claimed that the commissioner of Police in the State was doing the bidding of the Governor to the detriment of the citizens of the State.

“Whoever criticizes the Governor is seen to be making insults on the Governor and the person must be crushed, that’s the situation in Ebonyi and the police is not helping matters, even if you report to them, nothing is done to investigate your claims.

The current CP is not living up to expectations unlike the former one. He should be removed for the sake of safety and security of Ebonyi people,” the PDP spokesman further claimed.

However, reacting to the allegations, the Ebonyi State Government said the claims by Amos were tissues of falsehood and irresponsible.

The Government’s reaction came from the commissioner for information, Hon. Uchenna Orji.

He told the media that, “all the allegations such as it is, is tantamount to a complete fabrication, absolutely irresponsible, without foundation and cleverly wobbled to blackmail Ebonyi State Government.

“Amos Ogbonna as he called himself was a coordinator who was relieved of his duties even before the 2019 election for want of performance alongside a few coordinators. They are working under the conduit established by the PDP, duly funded and of course funds voted for him to go round media houses to blackmail Ebonyi State Government.

“Fortunately, his mission has hit the rocks, because the truth is clear, our performing Governor is a man of principle whose vision and mission when he came on board is really what is bringing the transformation we are experiencing.

“So, his allegations that he was kidnapped, funny enough he is a lawyer, we have made our position known in a statement signed by my humble self. His Co travellers, his co political travellers, we assure them that the Ebonyi State Government is undaunted to ensure the safety and security of our people.”

Ned Nwoko Is Using Affluence To Illegally Jail My Dad For Years For Opposing His Land-grabbing Business - Lady Cries Out (Video)

It was gathered that Ifejoku who is the elected President-General of Idumeje Ugboko Development Union was arrested by the Delta State Police Command on the order of Nwoko in 2017.

 Ned Nwoko

A Nigerian Twitter user identified by the username, @pa_melanin has initiated the hashtag #freeOkeyIfejoku over the detention of her father, Okey Ifejoku and 9 other community leaders of Idumeje Ugboko village in Delta state for years, allegedly on the order of former House of Representatives member, Ned Nwoko.

SaharaReporters gathered that Ifejoku who is the elected President-General of Idumeje Ugboko Development Union was arrested by the Delta State Police Command on the order of Nwoko in 2017.

The former lawmaker had accused him of sponsoring the indigenes of Aniocha North Local Government Area to protest against him and kick against his bid to forcefully acquire additional 90 hectares of land from an area earmarked for all indigenes of the community.

@pa_melanin, in a viral video on her page to help demand freedom for her father, accused Nwoko and the police of malicious destruction of property, disobedience to the order of the court, assault occasioning harm, abuse of public office, unlawful arrest, false imprisonment and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

She said, “Sometime in 2017, Ned Nwoko instigated a crisis in Idumuje Ugboko Community in Delta state, as a result of the community's firm refusal to give him additional 90 hectares of land, having mismanaged the hectares earlier given to him.

"In the ensuing crisis, it was alleged that one Cyprian Kumaorun was killed. While this was ongoing, my father, Okey Ifejoku was several kilometres away in Asaba. He was neither present at the scene of the crisis nor participated in any alleged fight.

"However, since then, Ned Nwoko has made it a point of duty to terrorise the community until they fall on their knees and offer him the land on a platter.

"By virtue of Mr. Okey Ifejoku's (my father's) position as the President of the Idumuje Ugboko Development Union, he has borne the greatest oppression from Ned Nwoko. Ned Nwoko has unlawfully used the instruments of state, particularly the Nigeria police in Delta State and Abuja, to oppress the helpless members of Idumuje-Ugboko Community.

"In 2017, Ned Nwoko prompted the police in Delta state to file a charge with the number: A/240C/2017, at the High Court of Delta State, against Ochei Nnamdi and Ofonye Ufoh, for the alleged murder of Cyprian Kumaorun. This charge was held on the merit and the defendants were acquitted.

"Not done, Ned Nwoko, once again, prompted the police to file a charge with the number: MI/24C/2020, at the magistrate's court of Delta state, Isele-Uku, against his own king (Obi Chukwunonso Nwoko), Mr. Okey Ifejoku (my father) and four other innocent members of the community for the alleged murder of Cyprian Kumaorun. The charge was sent to the DPP (Director of Public Prosecutions) of Delta state, who advised that the defendants had no case to answer. On the basis of the DPP's legal advise, the charge was struck out.

"While this was going on, Ned Nwoko moved to Abuja and got officers of the FCID Abuja to arrest my father, Mr Okey Ifejoku and 9 other members of the Idumuje Ugboko community. The 10 defendants were arrested, detained at FCID for up to six months, before they were charged to court in two batches, by the office of the Attorney General of the Federation for alleged terrorism and alleged murder of Cyprian Kumaorun.

"One wonders how the Attorney General of the Federation got so interested in a communal dispute in Idumuje Ugboko, with all the actual terrorism and banditry going in the North-East and North-West of Nigeria. Additionally, how could a charge be filed in Abuja when all the ingredients of the alleged offence and all the defendants reside in Delta State?

"The first charge: FHC/CR/169/2020 was before Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the FHC and has been transferred to the FHC , Delta State. The Charge: FH/CR/11/2019 (Mr. Okey Ifejoku and 7 others) was assigned to Justice Abang of the Federal High Court. As at the time of writing this, 7 of the defendants have been granted bail, while the innocent youth Leader, Raymond Omosiete, has remained unjustly incarcerated first at FCID Abuja, and later at Nigerian Correctional Service, Suleja, since November 23, 2020. All on Ned Nwoko's prompting.

"My father, Mr. Okey Ifejoku spent a cumulative time of about 5 months in both FCID and Nigerian Correctional Centre, Kuje, before he could perfect his very stringest bail conditions. Seeing that almost all the defendants habe been granted bail and that the charge is being exposed for what it is, 'outright persecution', Ned Nwoko, once again, prompted officers of the same FCID Abuja, to initiate another round of arrest, for the alleged murder of the same Cyprian Kumaorun, for which Mr. Okey Ifejoku had earlier been discharged by thr Magistrate Court, upon the DPP's advice, and is in fact, still standing trail at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

"On March 25, 2021, as My father, Mr. Okey Ifejoku and his co defendants exited the FHC Abuja, where they had gone to attend their trial, officers of the FCID Abuja, arrested him and his deputy, Mr. Godwin Akaba, kept them at FCID for almost a week before they were transferred to Delta State Police Command, Asaba, where they are still being detained right now.

"Upon enquiry at the FCID, we were informed that they were arrested for the alleged murder of Cyprian Kumaorun. Few weeks later, an additional member of the community was arrested and the police has vowed to arrest and prosecute the entire community, even though there have concluded several times on the ongoing cases on this issue.

"Currently my father, Mr. Okey Ifejoku, who has been granted bail by the Federal High Court, is in detention at the Delta State Police Command, Asaba, for an offence he did not commit. The police have not charged him to court and they have refused to release him. While all these are ongoing, Ned Nwoko has instigated some members of the community with no trace of royalty to challenge the Obiship of King Chukwunonso. As a result of this, my king is yet to be given a staff of office, more than three years after he assumed the stool of his forefathers."

Military Authorities Owe Us Uniform, Boot Allowances, We Can’t Afford Housing Scheme – Soldiers Tell Army Chief

The soldiers, who spoke to SaharaReporters on Saturday on the condition of anonymity, said the official statement of the Nigerian Army that the soldiers were duly consulted on the scheme was not true as nobody sought their consent or opinions.

According to a report by SaharaReporters, some highly aggrieved soldiers affected by the Nigerian Army’s controversial Welfare Housing Scheme have lamented that the army is owing them uniform and boot allowances and still wants to make deductions from their salary in the name of a housing scheme.

The soldiers, who spoke to SaharaReporters on Saturday on the condition of anonymity, said the official statement of the Nigerian Army that the soldiers were duly consulted on the scheme was not true as nobody sought their consent or opinions.

The soldiers also lamented that it was also a lie that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, met the scheme in the pipeline when he assumed office in January 2021, adding that the controversial housing scheme is his brainchild.

SaharaReporters had on Friday reported that some of the aggrieved soldiers wrote a save-our-soul letter to President Muhammadu Buhari over the Nigerian Army’s planned deduction of their salaries to pay for the “fraudulent Nigerian Army Welfare Housing Scheme.”

The soldiers – One sergeant, two corporals, two Lance Corporals and one Private – in the letter obtained by SaharaReporters had noted that the army planned to deduct between N15,000 and N49,000 monthly from their little salaries, which are not able to currently meet their needs.

The personnel said the Non-Commissioned Officers and the Senior Non-Commissioned Officers were the only ones affected, and they now find it difficult to feed their family and pay their children school fees “from our meagre salaries.”

They demanded that the army authorities reconsider the deductions.

In a reaction by the Nigerian Army’s Director of Public Relations, Brig-Gen Mohammed Yerima, the army authorities had claimed that the soldiers were duly consulted.

“The current Chief of Army Staff met an Army Housing Scheme in the pipeline and constituted a committee to understudy its feasibility and desirability. The committee subsequently designed the questionnaire for soldiers to bare their minds on the scheme and ascertain those interested in it. It was still at this stage of administering the questionnaire to soldiers that agent provocateurs seized the moment to demonise the scheme with toxic narratives,” the army’s spokesman had stated.

But speaking with SaharaReporters, some of the soldiers countered the army’s position that the housing scheme was an innovation to swindle the lower ranks of their meagre salary.

“This is a welfare housing policy proposed by the Chief of Army Staff for the other rank cadre which is to be compulsory and monthly deductions will be made from every soldier’s salary. No soldier was consulted on this. The officer cadre was exempted; besides, most of us have houses of our own. Our scarce skills allowance is N100,000 every month but we are short paid,” one of them said.

“There was no housing scheme in the pipeline that the new Chief of Army Staff met when he assumed office. No soldier was consulted, and questionnaires were not shared to sensitise or sample the opinion of troops.

“Our salary has not been increased; we still buy uniforms and boots for ourselves; we live in dilapidated buildings. We've not been paid a uniform allowance and boot allowance. You are deployed to a company, the company pays the sum of N150,000, but the Commanding Officer will pay each soldier N30,000,” another soldier said.

There Will Be No Election In Yorubaland In 2023 - Sunday Igboho Blows Hot

Igboho disclosed this while speaking with other agitators at a rally held on Saturday in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, to demand the Yoruba nation.

 Sunday Igboho

Igboho addressing his followers

Sunday Adeyemo, the Yoruba freedom fighter, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, says there will be no election in the South-West states in 2023, according to SaharaReporters.

Igboho disclosed this while speaking with other agitators at a rally held on Saturday in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, to demand the Yoruba nation.

He said that the Yoruba nation must leave now as it is no more a slave to the northerners.

Ighoho sought unity among Yoruba people and asked all that are aggrieved to come together.

The Yoruba freedom fighter also asked the Oyo and the Federal governments and the Nigeria Police Force to immediately release all Odua Peoples Congress (OPC) members in custody over the arrest of the Fulani warlord Isikilu Wakili in Ibarapa.

Recall that the Oyo State Police Command announced that it took into custody some members of the OPC connected with the earlier arrest of Wakili.

But Ighoho, during the rally, warned against their continued detention.

He said, “I urge the Oyo, Federal Governments and police to release OPC member who arrested Fulani herdsmen terrorising Yoruba people in Ibarapa land immediately, before all, Yorubas will come out en masse to protest against it.

“They apprehended some Fulanis who were disrupting the peace of Ibarapa and handed them over to the police. But the Oyo State Police and Nigerian Government now arrested them which should not be so.”

Others Were Accepted But I Was Rejected Thrice At Ritualists' Den – Abducted Nurse Tells Her Story In Rivers

She revealed on Saturday that as she was describing the place to the driver, she was hypnotized and lost her senses until she arrived at an unknown destination.

 Rachael David

Rachael David

Rachael David, an 18-year-old auxiliary nurse, has relived her close shave with death at a suspected ritual killers’ den in Rivers State after she was kidnapped at Okuru Junction, Port Harcourt, The PUNCH reports.

David, who is currently receiving treatment in a hospital, regained her freedom around 5pm on Friday.

Sunday PUNCH learnt that the teenager had gone to buy something at the junction around 7am on Thursday and was returning home when a motorist signalled to her, asking for direction to Bitter Leave Junction.

She told our correspondent on Saturday that as she was describing the place to the driver, she was hypnotised and lost her senses until she arrived at an unknown destination.

David explained, “I went to get something at Okuru Junction that Thursday morning before going to work. I didn’t get what I went to buy. While I was returning home, a driver blew the car horn to call my attention and I stopped. A lady was at the back of the car. He asked me if I know any place called Bitter Leave Junction and I said yes. As I was trying to direct him, he said he couldn’t hear me clearly and told me to come closer.

“He touched me and I didn’t know if I entered the car or not. By the time I regained consciousness, I was already in an unknown place. They had blindfolded me and tied my hands. I couldn’t tell the time of the day.”

The teenager stated that the abductors took her and some other victims to a gang suspected to be ritual killers, adding that all but her were accepted.

She said on Friday morning, the kidnappers took her and another set of victims to a spot while they remained blindfolded.

David recalled, “I was still rejected. After some hours, they took me and some victims somewhere blindfolded. One man asked them why they kept bringing me and told them to return me to where they picked me as fast as possible.

“Even though I couldn’t see what was going on in that place, it appears like a ritual killers’ den. I was the only person they rejected. I was rejected thrice. While I was in captivity, new victims were brought in. The abductors put me in the car and drove off. When we got to a spot along the road, they stopped, removed the blindfold and pushed me out of the car.”

David said she managed to untie himself and later found out from passersby that she was at Rumuokoro, Port Harcourt.

“The kidnappers didn’t take away my phone so I quickly called my mum. I had fainted before they came. It was this morning (Saturday) when I woke up that I realised I am in the hospital,” she added.

David’s elder sister, Joy, told Sunday PUNCH that the family was excited to see her again, noting that the incident was reported at the Amadi Police Division.

She said, “She was unconscious when we found her. Policemen followed us to pick her up at Rumuokoro where she was abandoned. She went to buy a pad at Okuru Junction when the motorists stopped her.”

The Rivers State police spokesperson, Nnamdi Omoni, did not pick up our correspondent’s calls and had yet to reply to a text message sent to him on the incident as of press time.

''I Was R*ped By My Pastor When I Went For Deliverance'' - Nigerian Lady Reveals, Says She Attempted Suicide (Video)

Dorothy Edet revealed this while speaking with newsmen during the funeral of Iniobong Umoren, the jobseeker who was r*ped in Akwa Ibom.

 Dorothy Edet

Dorothy Edet, a Nigerian lady has come out to share her heartbreaking story of surviving rape several times which she said started from her childhood.

The woman, while speaking with newsmen during the funeral of Iniobong Umoren, the jobseeker who was raped in Akwa Ibom, recounted how she has been raped by close relatives, strangers as well as people she went to sell her wares to when she was a child.

In her words, ''My name is Dorothy Edet. I am actually a survivor of rape. I understand what it means. When people talk about rape, I also want to air out my voice.

At the age of seven, I was gang raped. Dressing has nothing to do with rape. What a woman wears cannot even push somebody to rape a woman. At the age of 10, I remember my Uncle telling my mum he is going to send me to school and that was how they came, took me home and they sexually abused me from 10 to 12 years old.

At the age of 15, I was raped when I went to sell banana for my mum. They finished eating the banana and the groundnut and they still raped me. AT the age of 20, I was gangraped again when I went to sell garri. They raped me, collected the money, collected the Garri.

At the age of 24, I was raped by my pastor who said he wanted to do deliverance for me and he did not do the deliverance. He raped me. Within five days, I was gangraped by a group of thieves who nearly destroyed my body.  What did people say, don't say anything.

They keep telling victims not to say anything. Do you know the psychological trauma that they pass through. This thing is painful. You don't know what we face.''

Dorothy said she would have been a victim of the guy who raped and killed Iniobong as she got same message but didn't have money for transportation to attend the fake interview.

''I could have been a victim of this killing because this same guy also asked me to come for an interview. I have been searching for a job to survive because what I am having cannot take care of me and my family. I needed something better but I thank God I couldn't attend the interview because I didn't have transportation. That means this guy could have also killed me. No one knows what is going on'' she said

Speaking further, Dorothy said, We need to fight rape.  We need to fight rapists. They don't have a heart, They are one of the wicked individuals on earth. I wonder how they use to have an erection when they see that you are crying and begging for help. They don't have mercy for anybody. This people should not be spared. If it is possible, they should be eliminated. Just kill them by hanging. Giving them life imprisonment, they can be removed from the prison and they would come back to the world to cause more pain and harm to the young people. They need to be destroyed.''

Dorothy says she now has friends who are now lesbians and homosexuals because they were sexually assaulted.

Robbery Attempt In Aso Rock Shows Buhari can't Secure Nigeria - PDP

Nigeria's President has been accused of incompetency over a recent robbery attempt at the Aso Rock.

President Muhammadu Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari

The Peoples Democratic Party has attacked President Muhammadu Buhari over an attempted robbery incident at the Aso Rock.

The party says the robbery attack on Monday shows that the President Muhammadu Buhari lacked the capacity to secure Nigeria.

The opposition party said this in a press statement on Tuesday titled, ‘Bandits Invasion of Presidential Villa Shows Buhari Can’t Secure Nigeria, Says PDP’ by its spokesperson Kola Ologbodiyan.

We had reported there was an attempt by armed robbers to burgle the residence of the Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Gambari, early Monday morning.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, described the attack as “a foolish attempt”, claiming that the incident that happened around 3 am was not successful.

PDP in its reaction said the attempted robbery in the residence of Gambari has heightened apprehensions over the capacity of presidency to secure the nation.

The party said, “The @OfficialPDPNig is alarmed by the invasion of Aso Presidential Villa by bandits and armed robbers, saying the development further points to the collapse of security command structure under President @MBuhari’s incompetent watch.
“All over the world, the Presidential Villa, as the seat of power and national sovereignty, is the fortress of the nation that ought to have impregnable security.

“As such, any breach of security, particularly by outlaws and in sequence, sends a clear danger signal to the overall security of the nation.

“It is imperative to state that such security infraction, that gave way for outlaws to invade the Presidential villa in sequence, inspite of its perceptibly secured ambience, can only happen under an absentee President, who have not demonstrated the required capacity expected of his office.”

The PDP  also recalled that there was security breaches in June last year in Aso Rock, involving a shooting, arising from a bitter squabble between members of the president family and some security aides.

“Our party is worried that if President @MBuhari cannot guarantee the security of the Presidential villa, then his capacity to secure the entire country is no longer assured.

“The @OfficialPDPNig, therefore, urges President @MBuhari to wake up from slumber, review his security architecture and take decisive steps, beyond his lethargic body language, to secure our nation,” it added.

Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture has assured Nigerians that the government will tackle insecurity in the nation and restore peace.

Mohammad, who spoke at a press briefing in Lagos on Tuesday, also said the government and its security agencies have the wherewithal in terms of personnel and firepower to crush bandits, insurgents, criminals and other enemies of the Nigerian state.

He said, “It is no longer news that our dear nation is facing security challenges. However, I have read comments saying the Federal Government is overwhelmed and doesn’t have a clue as to how to tackle the challenges. Some have even gone as far as suggesting a truncation of the democratic order, a clearly treasonable stance.

“Well, I am here today to assure all Nigerians that while the government acknowledges the security challenges we face at this time, from terrorism to kidnaping, banditry and farmer-herder conflict, it is definitely not overwhelmed and indeed it has the wherewithal, as you will see in the days ahead, to confront the challenges headlong and restore law and order, peace and security.”

Nigerians Have More Money Than Nigeria - Governor Obaseki

Edo State, Godwin Obaseki has revealed that Nigerians now have more money than the country.

The governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has called on Nigerians to help develop the country.

He made the statement while saying that many Nigerians are richer than Nigeria as a country.

He stated this on Monday in Benin, during a meeting of the State Transmission Committee, with over 27 professional organisations.

The governor, who urged the professionals to collaborate with his administration to expand the state’s tax net to enable the government deliver on its mandate of making the great, expressed concern over the salaries and all sources of emoluments burden of the state, which he said will soon hit N40 billion a year.

Obaseki emphatically told the professionals that the state would be developed with money from Edo people.

He said: “For us as a government to continue to behave the way we used to behave before, when the circumstances that brought us into government are totally different; I think it will be grossly unfair to God and the people of Edo State. We are in government to serve you; we want you to join us and make Edo great again.

“So, without the commitment and collaboration of these different professional groups, there is not much that we can do because right now, we spend almost N40 billion a year in paying people’s salaries and all sources of emoluments.

“In the past, we used to get that amount from oil revenue and now, that amount will have to be paid by taxes from you. Therefore, should you not have an input? Should you not have a say? And that say, should it just be about criticizing the government?

“Truly speaking, if we do not build institutions, if we continue in the old ways, trying to build super stars and strong men, we will have no future, because these strong men will die, then what now happens?”

The governor, who noted that money is no longer available for government as it used to be, insisted that the money “is with us Nigerians. Nigerians have more money than Nigeria. It is the money of Nigerians that will develop Nigeria. It is the money of Edo people that will develop Edo.

“The government can do so much and you have seen what we are trying to do with the little resources that we have. I know how much we can achieve. There is a need for all stakeholders to change their attitude towards contributing to good governance.

“For us as a government to continue to behave the way we used to behave before, when the circumstances that brought us into government are totally different; I think it will be grossly unfair to God and the people of Edo State. We are in government to serve you; we want you to join us and make Edo great again.

“So, without the commitment and collaboration of these different professional groups, there is not much that we can do because right now, we spend almost N40 billion a year in paying people’s salaries and all sources of emoluments.”

“In the past, we used to get that amount from oil revenue and now, that amount will have to be paid by taxes from you. Therefore, should you not have an input? Should you not have a say? And that say, should it just be about criticizing the government?” he asked.
